Wow, if laser eye surgery cost as little as a pair of contact lenses, everyone who was eligible for the surgery would be getting it done There are clinics in the UK that advertise very low cost procedures but few patients have a prescription which makes them eligible for the low cost procedure. Most potential patients that walk in the door are told that their prescription does not qualify for the low cost, they are quoted much higher price. It’s the classic “bait and switch” but to be fair, the adverts do say “starting at…”.
Some clinics really do have a lower laser eye surgery cost than other UK clinics. Clinics which are run more like a retail business than a medical center can cut their costs and offer lower prices. One example of a cost cutting measure used to to have eye surgeons perform the operations only, optometrists and opticians will talk to potential patients and screen patients for suitability for a particular procedure. If you are comfortable not meeting your surgeon, whose day is basically an assembly line of laser eye surgeries, until immediately before your eye operation, you could save some money.
Being a frugal consumer is usually a good idea but when you are buying an operation to correct your vision, you may want to open up your wallet. You only have one pair of eyes.
